Are You a Candidate for LASIK Surgery?

If you need glasses or contacts to see well, it is likely you have imagined life without them. You have probably thought about LASIK and wondered if you could be a good candidate.

There are many reasons to consider LASIK surgery.  For example, if you are dependent on glasses or contacts to see all the time (from the moment you wake until you go to bed), LASIK may be a welcome option for you.  Perhaps your profession depends on good vision and wearing glasses or contacts is inconvenient and interferes with your work.  Some examples of professions that can benefit from LASIK include law enforcement, firefighters, professions with outdoor work and military personnel.

Are You a Candidate for LASIK Surgery?

Corneal Ulcers can be caused by wearing contact lenses too long.

Maybe you’re currently wearing contacts, but not always a “compliant” contact lens wearer – meaning you sometimes wear you contacts too long or do not have time to follow the proper safeguards for wearing or cleaning your contacts.  These reasons are very common. LASIK surgery may be a welcome change from dependency on glasses of contact lenses, as well as keeping you from doing serious harm to your eyes!

Additionally, have you been told that you’re not a candidate for LASIK?  Thankfully, there are other options, such as photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) and Implantable Collamer Lense (ICL) surgeries.  While these differ somewhat from LASIK, many patients who are not a candidate for LASIK have successfully undergone PRK and ICL surgeries with great success!

At Snead Eye Group, we thoroughly evaluate each patient for these procedures, ensuring the best option is chosen.

Dr. Klaus Freeland, one of our Board Certified Ophthalmologists, has performed many LASIK, PRK and ICL surgeries.  Dr. Freeland is a proud Veteran of the United States Army.
